Welcome to 2026!
I have never been big on new year resolutions. It always seemed odd to me to make a drastic change in any area just because the calendar year flipped. To me, change should happen at any time, and frequently, especially when there is a need. One of the many areas I consult on is standardized testing results. The time it takes to dig deep into strengths and weaknesses is well worth the effort once you are able to discern patterns. But I believe the bigger question is, what do you do with the results? Do you wait to make the change at the next school year, do you look for immediate ways to fill gaps or patch misconceptions? Do you flip out an entire curriculum? To me, any change has to be purposeful but also tailored to the distinct needs of the cohort, school, and students. The narrative for this change does not have to follow a set path. Flexibility is required for trial and error- staff and students need to grow together when implementing change that can improve the classroom experience as well as student achievement. A key part of this is inviting other educators into your classroom to provide a different point of view and an unbiased look into how we can improve. The catalyst for any big move recognizes the need to change and the desire to act upon it. So this year, in place of any resolutions or spontaneous goals, perhaps purposefully plan and execute strategies for change in a way that will support actual improvement professionally and for that of the students. Speranza consultants thrive within this model as we seek to pinpoint areas of strengths and weaknesses, while developing an attainable plan to meet personal and professional goals. Let us be a part of the change you desire; our wish to support comes from no other place than to help within the realm of very common goals for educators, students, and families.
